Gold Panning

Gold was first discovered at Thanes Creek in 1868, with major reefs of gold being uncovered is the following decades. Most notably were the Queen and King mines which were discovered in 1881.

The mines were worked on and off up until the late 1940's, with some major discoveries occurring in the area. Rumour has it that a the largest nugget found was a whopping 55 ounces.

Even today, you can still uncover gold by panning or by searching with a metal detector. So why not come and try your luck. We hire gold pans for only $3 per day, and you keep anything that you find. We're more than happy to teach you the trick to gold panning as well.
